Security!

… we got a complicated recipe.

I think we’ve talked about this before.  But complicated recipes drive me absolutely batty.  That’s what I had said.

I was at a friend’s house (a professional catering chef, PCC for short), and she was asking me what I like to cook.  I told her that I prefer to cook rather than bake because… well… I don’t really like measuring cups.  And cooking is more forgiving of that fact than baking.

… but it’s more than that.  I really dislike recipes with obscure ingredients, that require you to use a particular kitchen appliance (with no modifications if you don’t have said appliance), that got you pressin’ all these crazy buttons.  No.  You can use a different recipe.

The PCC even pointed out that usually, the simpler the recipe, the better it tastes.  People spend all their time on these crazy marinades for meat, but most restaurants just use salt and pepper*.

So tell me.  What’s your easiest, yummiest, non-complicated recipe.  Share the love!

Scoot yourself on over to my happy birthday post and get yourself entered in this contest.  No really.  Do.

My easiest, yummiest, non-complicated recipe has three ingredients: baking chocolate (i normally pick the semi-sweet variety), cream cheese (a standard package of 8 oz), and a package of oreos (that’s right, I said oreos).

Step 1: Crush all the oreos. (I tend to throw them in a ziploc baggie and starting hammering on them with some kitchen utensil like my soup ladle)
Step 2: Soften the cream cheese. (I just throw it in the microwave for enough time to make it soft enough to mix)
Step 3: Mix oreos and cream cheese together until you have one giant gooey mess.
Step 4: Roll portions of the gooey mess into balls (I typically do walnut-sized balls) and dip them in melted baking chocolate until totally covered and place them on a sheet of wax paper or a cookie sheet.
Step 5: Refrigerate until the chocolate is re-hardened or until you can’t stand it any longer and then ENJOY!

    Seriously, you should do this…

I once stayed up until 5:00 in the morning making approximately 300 of these for my brother’s wedding favors. When the reception halls AC broke for their July wedding and all the balls melted back into a gooey mess, people were opening the pink cellophane wrappers we had put them in and scooping them out with spoons. They are that AWESOME!!!
